Baylor football player Alex Foster dies in Mississippi shooting

one Baylor University Football The player died early Wednesday morning, and police said he was found in a car with frequent gunshot wounds in his hometown of Mississippi, and local officials said a recent surge in violent crimes.

18-year-old defensive informant Alex Foster was later identified as the victim of the early morning shooting in Greenville.

“We are saddened by the unexpected loss of Alex Foster, a beloved teammate, friend and cherished part of the Baylor family,” he said. Football coach Dave Aranda said in a joint statement released by the school.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Alex’s family and all those who love him. In this deeply sad time, we draw strength from faith and a firm love for the Baylor community. Our direct focus is to support Alex’s family and his teammates through this devastating loss. Alex’s memory will forever be a part of Baylor.”

Major Misty Mew, a spokesman for Greenville Police Department, told The Associated Press that officials responded to reports of shootings in the city’s residential/commercial areas shortly after midnight. After arriving at the scene, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds inside the car. Mew did not call Foster a victim, but the Washington County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity with the socket.

Foster was taken to a regional hospital, and soon after he succumbed to his injuries.

Police say

Arlanda later issued another statement on X, saying the Baylor community had been “destroyed” by Foster’s death.

“Alex is a beloved member of our Baylor family and we are shocked by this loss. His time at Baylor has had a lasting impact on all of us. Our hearts are broken, and our prayers are with his family, friends and all those who love him.”

In response to the shooting death, Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons published a recent “surge” of crimes affecting the community.

“In the past few weeks, our community has experienced a surge in violent crime, including multiple shootings, violent crime surges, gun violence and meaningless killings,” he said in a brief video address. Simmons added that after the vote was held on Wednesday, the city will impose a curfew immediately “until further notice” every day from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

“This is to protect the lives and well-being of every Greenville resident.”

Foster joins Baylor in 2024 Mississippi The prospect of the top 20 in the United States and the 69th defensive wingman. He saw no moves after he redshirted last season.
