Center awards DRDO chief Samir v. Kamat’s second-year service extension

In a major decision, the center awarded Samir, head of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), v. Dr. Kamat, whose service lasts for one year until May 31, 2026. This is his second service.
The Cabinet Appointment Committee approved the service of Samir v. Dr. Kamat, who is also secretary of the Department of Research and Development (DDR&D) of the Ministry of Defense.
Kamat was appointed to the top position on August 25, 2022.
Dr. Kamat is an outstanding scientist and is a member of the National Institute of Engineering (INAE) and the Indian Institute of Engineers (IEI). He is the winner of the IIT Kharagpur Distinguished Alumni Award, the Ministry of Steel’s Metallurgy of the Year and the DRDO’s Scientist of the Year Award. He has written more than 180 papers in international peer-reviewed journals.
Earlier on May 22, DRDO Chairman Samir v. Dr. Kamat visited Nagpur’s solar industry on Thursday. The solar industry is a leading indigenous defense manufacturing company that contributes to India’s self-reliance in defense production.
During his visit, Dr. Kamat reviewed the manufacturing process of various defense products being developed by the solar industry. In its exclusive interaction with ANI, Dr. Kamat highlights the growing growth of private enterprises in strengthening India’s defense capabilities.
“The private sector plays a crucial role in the defense sector. It is crucial to achieve the ‘aatmanirbhar bharat’ goal and to enhance our combat strength, it is crucial to promote the indigenous defense manufacturing industry.”
Speaking about the recent conflict with Pakistan, Dr. Kamat expressed satisfaction with the performance of the weapon system developed by DRDO, which was reportedly deployed during operation.
