Poland conducts nail showdown on presidential landing

The presidential election in Poland this weekend will be a very tense match, with a survey released on Friday showing two candidates separated by razor thin profits.

A survey commissioned by the Onenet portal revealed that liberal Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski led by 50.1% of the vote, followed by right-wing conservative Karol Nawrocki, accounting for 49.9%.

Another survey commissioned by Wirtualna Polska Portal came to a different conclusion, giving Nawrocki a range of 49.37% with 50.63% of the vote and Trzaskowski.

Sunday’s election is expected to have a decisive impact on Poland’s future route and its relations with the EU.

The victory of pro-European Trzaskowski, belonging to Prime Minister Donald Tusk, will allow Tusk to push its reformist agenda.

Meanwhile, Nawrocki comes from the conservative nationalist law and justice party, such as the current president Andrzej Duda, who has blocked many legislative projects of the government with his veto.

In Poland, the president has a five-year term and has broad powers, including representing countries abroad, influencing foreign policy, appointing government supervisors and cabinet heads, and serving as commander-in-chief of the armed forces at the time of war.

The polling station is closed at 9 p.m. on Sunday at 9 p.m. GMT. Although preliminary estimates will be conducted soon, their range of errors is greater than the difference between the two candidates in the poll.

Monday is expected to be the official result.
