Google Search uses AI-generated podcast hosts to answer your questions

Now you can ask Google Search to search for all the top search results, instead giving you a comprehensive AI-generated summary through its audio overview feature. The AI feature uses Google Gemini models to create a short audio clip that sounds like a conversation podcast with two hosts.

This is not ideal for your basic search query (such as finding out when Father’s Day is), but it can be helpful if you want to respond in depth and silently to the history and significance of Flag Day. Audio Overview Option removes Google search results from the homepage and compiles them into audio summary where two sounds bounce back to each other for more engaging answers. You can also adjust the volume and playback speed between 0.25 and 2 times. The audio overview even includes a webpage from which it gets information, allowing you to continue accessing the Google Search Rabbit hole.

This is not the first time Google has provided its audio overview tool, but it was previously reserved for its laptop tools. Google extends this feature by making audio overviews more interactive in NoteBookLM, allowing you to ask questions about AI hosting in real time, and added a “deep diving” option to keep AI focused on specific topics. To test the audio overview in a part of Google Search, you must select the Google Labs feature on their website.
