Ahmedabad plane crash: 8 families have not received bodies because the first DNA sample cannot be matched

The families of eight Ahmedabad plane crash victims were asked to provide samples for another relative who was tested after the first sample submitted by their relatives mismatched.
The body cannot be handed over to relatives unless there is a match, Rakesh Joshi, civil director of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, told PTI.
“If there is no match for a longer period of time, then you can ask another sample from another relative. If a sibling gives the sample, then seek another sibling’s sample to match the DNA to the victim’s DNA,” he said.
Josh added: “We usually prefer the father-son/daughter sample.
However, he clarified that the sibling samples had matched in the process.
The first sample of at least eight such families has not yet matched, so seek another sample.
Until Friday, DNA samples from 231 deceased had been matched and 210 bodies were handed over to the family.
On Friday, Joshi had said that because the DNA matching process is very sensitive and involves legal agreements, it is the most serious and fast to proceed.
To ensure families quickly obtain the bodies of their loved ones, the University of Forensic Sciences, as well as relevant institutions, local administrations, state government health and other departments, as well as various agencies, are working tirelessly.
