PCCI supports Konektadong Pinoy but requires entrants to review

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) said the Konektadong Pinoy bill must be accompanied by a comprehensive regulatory framework that screens entrants to minimize national security risks.
PCCI said in a statement over the weekend that it supports the passage of the bill, also known as the Data Transfer Act, in particular its removal of legislative franchise requirements for telecom operators, but requires safeguards to ensure that “only capable and responsible entities can operate.”
It added: “Open access cannot be at the expense of our national security or the integrity of our critical digital infrastructure.”
PCCI said “transparency and vision” must be adopted to prepare for the implementation of rules and regulations.
It also provides strong oversight to the National Telecommunications Commission and has clear standards for approving and monitoring service providers.
PCCI promises to “ensure open access to the Data Transfer Act becomes the cornerstone of inclusive, secure and sustainable digital connectivity.” – Justin Ireland D. Table
