From childhood dreams to movie reality – Superman is back

Superman (2025) – Review by Matthew Morlai Kamara from childhood dreams to film reality – Superman is back and he never feels more needed.

Some kids have action characters. I have Superman. Christopher Reeve grew up in the 1980s and was that guy-soaring in the sky, saving the day, flashing that smile and saying, “This is OK.” Not only did I admire Superman…I want to be him (a cape made of towels and all). Reeve’s portrayal is more than power. Even if the world does not, it is about the heart, kindness and belief in people.

Fast forward to 2025, I sit in a crowded screening room, Hope – Pray – James Gunn’s view of Steel Of Steel will capture the same magic. It not only captures it…it lifts it, laser eye, and spins it to a new era.

Superman (2025) reboots the legendary hero with fresh, emotional resonance and joyful comic tone. When the film begins, Clark Kent (David Corenswet) has become Superman active – saving lives, working on the Daily Planet and trying to balance his dual identity. But this time, the story takes a deeper look at what it means to be superhuman in a world full of complexity, chaos and cynicism.

As Superman fulfills his responsibilities for the legacy of Earth and K, he crosses the road (and sword) with Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), a cold, calculated genius who has been quietly manipulating global events behind the scenes. Luthor’s master plan? Revealing Superman is not a savior, but a threat. Devoting to alien technology, government paranoids, and some surprise cameos from familiar DC faces, your story is just as important as saving the world, as identity and belonging.

Yes – Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) is here, as fierce as ever, poses sharp questions and a sharper look. There is also a beautiful, glaring spot of the robbery (Mr. Edi Gathegi), a superhero with gadgets, brains and dead pan delivery that makes me whisper “instant fan favorites” under my breath.

James Gunn has crafted something rare: a heart-filmed superman movie with a character, unabashed pleasure. Humor never weakens emotions, and emotions never fall into melodrama. You’ll laugh, you’ll cheer up, and maybe even get foggy eyes (I did – but let’s blame it).

David Corenswet has a cape – strong, rooted and heart-filled. He brings sincerity and warmth to Clark, but as a superhuman power and existence. But let’s talk about the hidden gem of this movie: Rachel Brosnahan’s keenness, fearless Lois Lane and Edi Gathegi’s sneak. Brosnahan brings brains, fire and sparks to make every communication of Clark Electric. Meanwhile, Gathegi is effortlessly cool and shaver-free with her own applause. These two are explosives.

Then Nicholas Hoult as lex. Calm, weird, disturbing composition. Thinking of Zuckerberg with vendetta and without a moral compass. He is the kind of villain that makes your skin crawl without raising the sound – which is frightening in all the right ways.

This actor is not just passing on – they ignite the screen. Every show will land. Every moment is important.

Watch – I’ve always admired the powerful movie scores. This is the emotional undercurrent of every superhero epic unsung hero. And John Murphy? The man offers something legendary. His thunderous emotional score respects John Williams’ iconic legacy while daring to fly into new voice territory. From the fanaticism of victory to the intimate piano theme, Murphy breathes the soul into this Superman—like the hero himself, elevates us.

The action scenes are smooth, exciting, and in some of the threats of apocalyptic world, he never ignores Clark Kent: the man under the cape.

The final thought David Corenswet performed a representative performance as Superman. James Gunn captures the comic nature of the character – truth, justice, and yes, that’s the most important hope. Nicholas Hoult is as pleasant as Lex, especially with Gathegi and Brosnahan’s support cast glowing in hidden gem states. John Murphy’s score raised everything to legendary status.

It’s not just a restart. It is a love letter to everything Superman represents and guarantees his legacy is still important.
