Meta’s Zuckerberg bets hundreds of millions in AI data centers
Story: Mark Zuckerberg puts a big bet on AI.
Meta platform owner said on Monday (July 14) that the company will spend hundreds of billions of dollars to build several large data centers.
Their purpose is to push Meta to win what is called “super smart”.
That is AI that transcends human abilities.
Zuckerberg said the first of the new large data centers, known as Prometheus, will be available next year.
He touted the strength of the company’s core advertising business to justify spending.
Meta restructured its AI efforts last month under a division called Super Smart Labs.
It was a setback for its Llama 4 model, and the departure of key personnel.
It bets that the new unit will generate revenue from products such as smart glasses and new advertising tools.
The company is also actively recruiting new clothing.
However, one analyst said Zuckerberg’s AI investment plan is indeed a long-term bet, which is not a bet that will generate large incomes soon.
