Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with U.S. Vice President JD Vance in the national capital on Monday, and both leaders reviewed progress on bilateral relations between India and the United States. The U.S. Vice President accompanied Second Lady Usha Vance, their children and senior members of the Donald Trump administration.

US Vice President's First Visit to India

Vice President Vance's first visit to India began on Monday and is scheduled to end on April 24.

The Prime Minister and the Vice President of the United States have conducted a positive assessment of progress in various areas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries and welcomed significant developments in negotiations to achieve mutually beneficial India-U.S. bilateral trade agreement, focusing on the welfare of both peoples.

The two leaders pointed out that efforts will continue to strengthen cooperation between the two sides in areas such as energy, defense and strategic technology.

They also exchanged ideas on various regional and global issues of mutual benefit, calling for dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward.

Prime Minister Modi pays tribute to the Vice President, the Second Lady and his children for a pleasant and productive stay in India.

The Prime Minister also conveyed his warm greetings to U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that he is looking forward to Trump's visit to India this year.

Earlier in the day, the U.S. Vice President visited the Akshadham Temple in Delhi with his family.

JD Vance India visits 2025 to focus on trade and defense cooperation

Vance and his family made a four-day official visit to India. His visit comes as the U.S. president announced a 90-day pause in several countries, including India. India attempts to finalize a trade agreement during this period.

Vance's visit is seen as the basis for high-level talks between the two countries, which also lays the foundation for President Trump's proposed visit to India and the upcoming four-summit summit.

Meanwhile, a defense agreement is expected to be signed during a US Secretary of Defense visit to India later this year.
