Razer restores its EGPU cable with Thunderbolt 5 Dock

Razer returns to its core series of exterior graphic shells. The exterior graphics shell can accommodate the latest GPUs from brands like Nvidia Geforce and AMD Radeon. It uses a single Thunderbolt 5 cable to the host device; Razer claims in its news material that this technology can provide up to the bandwidth of Thunderbolt 4. This is true, but Thunderbolt 5 is still not on the level of modern desktop GPU connectivity, roughly equivalent to the 8th lane of the PCIE Gen 3. The CoreX V2 S is not available yet, but will be available for retail price of $350 when IT and will be available soon.

EGPU can enhance the visual capabilities of gaming laptops or handheld computers. Over the years, Razer started with the 2016 blade stealth model. It was followed by colorful in 2018 and 2019. The availability of Thunderbolt 5 ports has regained interest in this product category as it increases the maximum bandwidth of the EGPU. Asus is also its own EGPU on CES 2025.
