The Department of Homeland Security defended its agent Wednesday as Senator Dick Durbin said they were moving from targeting dangerous offenders to rounding up illegal immigrants like gardeners, “many of whom pose no threat.”
Durbin, a ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, spoke at a hearing Tuesday titled “Beyond Crushing and Robbery: Crime Networks and Organized Theft,” when he noted that federal law enforcement plays a variety of roles in combating organized crime and organized retail theft, especially organized retail theft (particularly special retail theft).

“But we acknowledge that this administration has announced different priorities,” he said. “Under the leadership of this administration, HSI has been moved around immigrants, many of whom have no threat to the country.”
In an article on X, DHS noted that Doberbin’s own state, Illinois, provides shelter for criminal illegal immigrants.
“The worst thing about the brave men and women that Durbin attacked on the street is, it’s the worst,” the Post said. “The Senators should thank them, not attack them.”
The Department of Homeland Security Post said that as much as the Senators’ comments, attacks on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel increased by more than 830 percent, “They put their lives at the end of each day to arrest violent criminal illegal foreigners to protect and defend the lives of U.S. citizens.”
Democrats accuse the Trump administration of transferring “critical resources” from fighting organized retail theft
Dubin cited a report that he said HSI agents had been removed from new cases to earn time for immigration enforcement arrests.
“A senior agent said, ‘No drug cases, no human trafficking, no child exploitation.’ He said it was angry. These are not serious actions by the government to fight crime,” Durbin concluded. “Transfer federal resources to endanger Americans, allowing us to target and undermine criminals like organized retail theft.”
