Russia cancels flagship weapons fair no explanation
Russia suddenly canceled its annual Weapons Expo (the defense industry display cabinet used by the Kremlin to project military power) and there is no reason to make a decision.
The Army’s 2025 forum, scheduled for August 11-14 at Patriot Military Park outside Moscow, has been postponed to an unspecified later date, state news agency Tass reported on Saturday.
The trademark weapons exhibition, which includes the forum, will feature military hardware and new technologies such as drones.
According to the forum’s website, it is expected that this year’s event will have more than 1,500 participants, with more than 28,000 projects to be displayed. In 2024, delegations from more than 100 countries were invited.
Since its launch in 2015, the forum has been regarded as the most important platform for the Russian Ministry of Defense to promote military exports and partnerships.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the announcement is an increasing number of security issues in the Moscow region, with Ukrainian drones being shot down almost every day. Air traffic restrictions have become increasingly frequent due to ongoing drone threats.
However, it is not clear whether security fears prompted delays.
Russia has also been occupied in large quantities by its war against Ukraine, and it is now in its third year. Despite the ongoing conflict, President Vladimir Putin insists that Russia’s arms industry must continue to meet its export commitments to foreign customers.
