Kremlin says Putin is ready to discuss peace in Ukraine but wants to achieve his goal

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to move towards a peaceful settlement, but Moscow’s main goal is to achieve its goals, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state television in a clip published on Sunday.

Peskov said now that the world is used to the sometimes “harsh” remarks of U.S. President Donald Trump, however, pointed out that Trump also emphasized in his comments to Russia that he would continue to look for a peace deal.

“President Putin has spoken several times about his desire to bring Ukrainian settlements to the peace conclusion as soon as possible. It’s a long process and requires effort, and it’s not easy,” Peskov said.

“For us, the most important thing is to achieve our goals. Our goals are clear,” Peskov said.

On Monday, Trump announced a tougher stance against Russia, pledging to provide new military aid to Ukraine, including the Patriot missile defense system. He also gave Russia a 50-day deadline to agree to a ceasefire or face other sanctions.
