Cadillac will actually offer Apple Carplay in its electric cars, but you can’t have it

Back in December 2023, General Motors announced its plans to get rid of the popular Apple Carplay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring services to support its upcoming in-house infotainment for electric cars. This decision immediately drew criticism from buyers, which is not surprising given the overwhelming attitude the service has gained. According to Australia’s report CarexpertHowever, the friends below us won’t be conquered into the same infotainment dilemma, as GM will offer a mirroring app in its Cadillac electric car model.
Today, GM has positioned Cadillac as an all-electric brand in Australia. Only the Lyriq is currently in showrooms, but Cadillac has confirmed plans to bring the Visitq and Optiq to both Australia and New Zealand for 2026. With the lineup set to expand, the automaker has started rolling out its Cadillac Connected Services features in Australia, which include items like over-the-air updates, the new Google Built-In infotainment setup, smart routing, and mobile app Unfortunately for them, the Super Cruise is not part of the Australians. On the plus side, automakers have confirmed that it won’t bring its infotainment lockdown strategy to Australia.

A GM spokesman said: “All Cadillac Lyriq, Lyriq-V, Vistiq and Optiq vehicles coming to Australia and New Zealand will provide Cadillac connectivity services as well as wireless smartphone projections currently available in Lyriq Models.”
While we are happy for Cadillac’s clients in Oceania, we can’t help but feel a little bit of pain. Google built-in is a good foundation for infotainment setup, but having a smartphone mirroring option is still good. Most buyers agree that McKinsey & Co’s 2024 consumer survey shows that almost half of buyers won’t buy cars that don’t have Apple Carplay or Android Auto. In addition, about 80% of respondents who use the mirroring system prefer local infotainment.
