Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek continues to ride hot hands on North American hard courts. The six-time major champion defeated Germany’s Eva Lys 6-2, 6-2 in Montreal on Friday night for 16 rounds.
The 24-year-old beaten just eight games in two rounds of Omnium Banque Nationale and will next face 16-seeded Clara Tauson.
Tauson took Yuliia Starodubtseva 6-3 6-0.
Swiatek has now won nine races on the trot, dating back to the beginning of her Wimbledon Championship. Her 13th Professional Hard Court Championship in Montreal this week is also her first since 2024 Indian Wells.
Swiatek improved her victory 43-12 this season.
