Zelensky said exchange of 1,200 prisoners of war with Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr confirmed the previously discussed exchange with Russia by Prisoners of War (POW), which has mentioned the exchange.
Zelensky said in a post on the Telegram that a list of 1,200 names is being used. Russian negotiators mentioned in a direct negotiation with Ukrainian counterparts in Istanbul on July 23, while the Ukrainians did not release any figures at the time.
After meeting with Ukraine’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov, Zelensky said the exchange would include civilians and soldiers. He added that preparations for another meeting with the Russian side were underway without mentioning dating.
Zelensky said a total of 5,857 people have returned to Ukraine from Russia’s imprisonment since the full-size Russian invasion in February 2022. He reported on X that another 555 people were released with the exchange.
The two sides recently released prisoners in July and reached phased exchanges in Istanbul at the end of June 1200.
The total number of prisoners on both sides is unclear and is changing. There are also repeated communications.
The unconditional and comprehensive ceasefire requested by Ukraine in Istanbul talks were not seen. Instead, Moscow provided a brief struggle for both sides to collect their falls and get injured along the frontline.
In the premise of a comprehensive Russian ceasefire, Western weapons must be stopped from being shipped to Ukraine.
