Water wall lashes at Himalayan village, leaving multiple deaths and dozens of fear of being trapped or missing
At least four people died and dozens were missing, officials said floods were swelling in a mountain village in northern India’s northern Indian state of Uttarakhand on Tuesday.
Dramatic videos from the village of Dharali, Himalayan village, show walls of water, dirt and debris that tear off the mountainside and pass through the village, destroying houses and businesses. According to Utakasi District Judge Prashant Arya, the flood occurred around 1:45 local time.
Arya said at least four people were confirmed. “There are a lot of hotels, restaurants and hotels there because we immediately asked the army to help with the rescue operation,” he said.
Arya said about 12 hotels were washed away during the flood on Tuesday, and the Associated Press reported that rescuers were worried that people might be trapped or missing throughout the valley.
At least 50 and nine army personnel have not been eliminated as of Tuesday night, and nearby army camps have also been attacked by mudslides, according to Lt. Col. Manish Shrivastava, a defense spokesman for Uttarakhand.
Shrivastava added that rescue work on Wednesday continued on Wednesday as additional Army units as well as deployed tracking dogs, drones, off-road equipment. About 20 people were rescued.
Possible Cloudburst activities
Uttarkashi District Magistrate Arya proposed that the flood was a sudden heavy rain in the devastating Dharali, also known as Cloudburst.
“There is a river there, and a lot of water suddenly appeared because of the explosion of clouds.”
Cloud Burmsts can cause extreme rainfall in local areas, often causing flash flooding. They occur in the foothills of the Himalayas, partly triggered by terrain – which also makes flooding more dangerous. The Indian Ministry of Meteorology defines cloud explosions as rainfall rates exceeding 100 mm (4 inches) per hour.
Cloud explosions can cause great damage and damage due to incredible water flowing through mountains and valleys in a short period of time.
CNN has not confirmed that the flood was caused by the cloud outbreak. There are other possible causes of such events, including an outbreak of glacial lakes, failure of the dam or sudden release of water upstream. When the natural ice dam melted and collapsed, a glacial lake erupted and suddenly, unexpected water emitted unexpected water from under the steep terrain. They are most likely to happen at this time of year.
India’s meteorological department has raised the highest warning about “extreme rainfall” in Uttarakhand. Some parts of the state are particularly prone to flooding, earning up to 300 mm (12 inches) in 24 hours to 24 hours on Tuesday morning.
India received most of the rainfall during the southwest monsoon from June to September. Agriculture and livelihoods depend on huge storms in the summer, but storms can also bring such huge downpours and floods that the infrastructure in the region cannot cope with.
