The Americans in the Bomb Service won his first career defeat of Alex de Minaur in six attempts, who did it decisively, clashing with Argentina’s Francisco Casemana on a 7-6 (6) 6-4.
“My service isn’t as I want it, but everything else is working,” said Opelka, who hasn’t faced De Minaur since 2022. “My forehand has helped me a lot, backhand, I’ve had a lot of offenses and I’ve been very consistent throughout the game. ”
After defeating Novak Djokovic in Brisbane early this season, Opelka, ranked 73rd, faced the top ten in 2025.
Almost two years after he forced him to quit the ATP Tour due to an injury interruption, Opelka, now 27, is now up to 65 in the ATP Live rankings. He had hip surgery in 2022 and then right wrist surgery in 2023.
