Gorio strengthens typhoon; no wind signal yet

Gorio (international name: Podul) has transformed from severe tropical storms to typhoons, but has not yet proposed a tropical cyclone signal (Pagasa) in the country, according to the Philippine atmosphere, Geophysical and Astronomy Services Authority (Pagasa).

In the latest press conference released by Pagasa at 5:00 AM, Gorio has stepped up to the typhoon with a maximum sustained wind of 120 km/h and a gust of odor reaching 150 km/h.

Typhoon Gorio was found 745 kilometers east of Batanes and moved west at 25 kilometers per hour, likely heading to Taiwan.

Pagasa weather expert Obet Badrina said that despite Gorio’s exacerbation of the typhoon, its impact has not been directly felt in the country and has not affected the existing southwestern monsoon during the forecast period.

“At present, there is no raised tropical cyclone signal in our country, you can see Typhoon Gorio said in a mixed English and Filipino at a press conference.

Typhoon Gorio is expected to land in Taiwan on Wednesday afternoon and eventually leaves the Philippines Area of Responsibility (PAR) that night.

However, if the typhoon further intensifies and its movement is slightly downward, then in the northernmost part of Luzon, a hyacinth signal of a tropical cyclone may be raised, possibly Batanes.

Rain showers are still possible in most parts of the country, especially in much of the western region, due to southwestern monsoons and local thunderstorms. EDG Adrian A. Eva
