The farmers’ yearbook predicts the “old-fashioned” winter. What to expect in 2025 – 2026

Get ready for “dramatic swings and extensive cold weather.” Farmer Alamac predicts the “cold, snow, repetitive” weather pattern for the upcoming 2025-2026 winter.
While the official starts winter only until late December, the yearbook predicts that cold and snow may move in some parts of the country as early as September.
“Most of the country is having a cold or very cold winter that almost goes back to the old-fashioned winter,” Sandi Duncan, the farmer’s yearbook editor, told USA Today. “It calms down, snows, and then it may get a little hotter and repeats it again.”
Last winter, the Arctic was severe, with several inches of snow in the Nashville area. This is what I’m looking forward to this season.

Did the farmers’ yearbooks make winter weather forecasts last year?
Although some may question the accuracy of farmers’ yearbooks and their competitive guides, the Old Farmer’s Yearbook is still very popular.
In the 2024-2025 winter forecast accuracy report, the farmers’ yearbook notes that it calls for mild winters in Texas and the southern plains to “meet the target” and “correctly call the cold weather in the North Plains and Great Lakes.”
The yearbook also accurately predicts the deep cold at the end of January. However, it acknowledged that La Niña threw a curve ball, resulting in fewer wet weather events than expected.

Farmers’ yearbooks and old farmers’ yearbooks: What’s the difference?
The old farmer’s yearbook and the farmer’s yearbook have a long tradition of predicting weather in North America, using sun patterns, historical data, remote models and proprietary formulas to help readers predict seasonal changes.
Despite similarities, the origin, scope and distribution of both publications differ.
The Old Farmers Yearbook, first published by Robert B. Thomas in 1792, provides forecasts for 18 regions in the United States and Canada and is printed by Yankee Publishing Inc., a company owned by employees in Dublin, New Hampshire.
Meanwhile, David Young first released the farmers’ yearbook in 1818 and covered seven U.S. and five Canadian climate regions. It is published by Geiger, a Lewiston company based in Maine, known as the country’s largest private promotional product company.
