California Gov. Gavin Newsom asked President Donald Trump to abandon the Republican-led re-division drive during a Democratic strike, which prevented Republicans from working to re-make a Congressional map in the Republican state.

The Democratic governor warned the party to have risks of entering a “arms race” of national re-division and urged Trump to “stand down.”

After a few days of back and forth between the two leaders, Newsom tweeted on the official page of the Governor Newsom Press office, mocking Trump for ostensibly trying to mimic the president’s trait style of using full hats and Supreme Court in many posts.

“Donald’Taco’Trump, many call him “missed” deadline! California will now draw new, more ‘beautiful maps’ and they will be historic as they will end the Trump presidency (Dems retakes the house!). Big press conference this week! This week with the mighty DEMS and Gavin Newsom (Gavin Newsom) – your favorite governor – will be frustrated with Maga.” Thank you for your attention on this matter!

Newsom’s exaggeration, imitating Trump’s tone, suggests that unless red states like Texas suspend their partisan map plans, California will retaliate in the ongoing reallocation battle.

The governor appears to have doubled the comments on X since Monday.

“Donald Trump: It’s time to call Greg Abbott and tell him to stand down. You’re not ‘qualified” down to 5 seats in Congress. If you don’t cancel your actions, the CA will act quickly and quickly. We’ll vote. We’ll neutralize anything. You’ll have to grasp it. We’ll fall on the fire and down on the fire.”

The post coincides with a letter to Trump on Monday accusing the president of “playing with fire.”

The governor said he was ready to do anything to combat any gains the Republicans have made through their efforts in Texas.

“You are opening fire, risking destabilizing our democracy while knowing that California can eliminate any benefits you wish to bring,” Newsom told Trump in the letter.

“This attempt to take power on the Congressional map before a vote in the 2026 election is an offense to American democracy,” Newsom said.

Newsom said he favors the decision to leave the Independent Commission and would stand down “happily” if other states follow suit in the redistricting efforts.

Newsom’s office, in another sly comprehensive tweet, aimed at imitating Trump’s social media style, summed up the letter: “Donald Trump, if you don’t stand down, we will be forced to work on remapping the map in the CA to offset the map of the red states to cancel the map of the red states. However, if other states cancel your recordings.

Newsom’s threat could mark a huge reversal of the independent re-division process approved by California voters and could require legislative action, or even statewide voting measures.

Although this was only a political fight back, the move sparked debate between Democrats and Republicans over whether the party risked its morally high stance on the fair map.
