India successfully tests fire test AGNI-5 missiles in 5,000km strike range

To demonstrate its strategic military power, India successfully tested the “Agni 5” intermediate ballistic missile on Wednesday, with a range of up to 5,000 kilometers.

The Ministry of Defense said missile test firing within the comprehensive test range of Chandipur, Odisha, verified all operational and technical parameters.

The AGNI-5 missile can bring almost the entire Asia, including China’s northernmost end and certain parts of Europe within its striking range. The test shot of the strategic assets was about three and a half months after the military conflict between India and Pakistan.

“The intermediate range ballistic missile ‘Agni 5’ was successfully tested on August 20 in Chandipur, Odisha,” the Ministry of Defense said in a brief statement.

“The release verifies all operational and technical parameters. It was conducted under the auspices of the Commander of Strategic Forces,” it said.

India’s missile power expands

India also tried the AGNI-5 missile last March. The AGNI 1 to 4 missiles range from 700 km to 3500 km and have been deployed.

Last month, India successfully tested the nuclear-burning short-range ballistic missiles Prithvi-II and Agni-I. The Prithvi-II missile has a range of about 350 kilometers and can carry payloads up to 500 kilometers. It can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads.

New tactical missile “Pralay” tested in July

The AGNI-1 missile has a range of 700-900 kilometers and a payload of 1,000 kilograms. Prithvi-II and Agni-I missiles are both part of India’s nuclear deterrence.

In July, India also tested the newly developed tactical missile “Pralay”, which is capable of carrying conventional warheads. “Pralay” is a short-range surface-to-ground missile with a payload capacity of 500-1,000 kg.
