PM Modi talks with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday, with both leaders reviewing progress on the bilateral partnership between the two countries.
The two leaders also discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the various areas of common interest.
Zelenskyy shared his views on the latest developments related to his country.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s stable position on a peaceful settlement of conflict and its support for efforts aimed at restoring peace as soon as possible, the official statement said.
The Prime Minister also thanked Zelenskyy for reaffirming India’s firm and stable position to resolve conflicts peacefully and support efforts aimed at the earliest to restore peace.

He also reiterated India’s commitment to expand all possible support in this regard.
Both leaders agreed to stay in touch.
This development comes as India and Russia reaffirmed their strategic partnership at a high-level meeting in Moscow, despite growing pressure on India to continue to buy Russian oil.
This week, select Indian exports for India’s oil trade as Russia increased by 25% to bring the total tariff to 50%.

Russian oil purchases in India
Since the United States and the European Union also traded with Russia, India has criticized the tariffs as unfair and double standards. India insists on buying Russian crude oil.
The trade dispute has caused diplomatic and economic rifts between India and the United States, raising concerns about the future of its strategic partnership.
Russian oil accounts for about 40% of India’s total oil imports.
India meets four-fifths of its oil demand through imports.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Modi had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Prime Minister thanked Putin for the latest news about the situation in Ukraine and reiterated his commitment to bilateral relations between the two sides.
Prime Minister Modi invites Putin to make an official visit to India later this year to attend the 23rd Indian-Russia Annual Summit.
