LPA may become tropical depression

The state weather bureau said Wednesday that one of the monitored low-pressure areas (LPAs) has a “very high” possibility within 24 hours, but is not expected to have an impact on the country.

In a briefing at 5 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Authority (Pagasa) said the LPA could be the first tropical cyclone in September and would be called “Kiko.”

It is located 1,190 kilometers northeast of Luzon and is expected to withdraw from the Philippines Area of Responsibility (PAR).

“It is already far from our continent and at present, it no longer has any impact or direct impact anywhere in the country,” Loriedin Dela Cruz-Galicia said in a Tagalog news conference.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said the southwestern monsoon (Habagat) is still expected to affect much of the country, bringing heavy rain, especially in the western region. – EDG Adrian A. Eva
