Barclays launches transitional farm financing to support sustainable agriculture

Barclays has launched a new market-leading lending facility designed to support UK farmers adopting regenerative and sustainable agricultural practices.

Farm Transition Financing (FTF) advocates a standard term loan interest rate of 0.3% for eligible farmers, with a flexible repayment structure designed to reflect the needs of individual business. The facility aims to make investments in nature-friendly changes easier to access by allowing farmers to use existing farm certifications, supply chain programs and government grants as evidence of transition programs.

Qualification has nothing to do with a single initiative. Participation in recognized programs such as Defra’s Sustainable Agricultural Incentives (SFI), Leaf Marque Standard, Soil Association Organic Certification and Regenifiend’s 6-3-4 Verification Standard can all be qualified, as well as other supply chain programs, demonstrates commitment to regeneration methods.

“Barclays has a long history of supporting UK agriculture and currently works with more than 30,000 farmers. Farm transition financing reflects our ongoing commitment to the industry, and it is a clear example of how we can work with farmers and how we can work with farmers as we transition and explore farming practices that continuously improve their sustainability.”

The facility is designed to support improved soil health, biodiversity, water efficiency and emission reduction. By enabling low-cost financing, Barclays hopes the program will increase the resilience of UK agribusinesses and help them stay competitive and future in the evolving landscape.
