Jannik Sinner quickly started to regain Beijing’s Chinese Open Trophy, where he won the championship with two-time finalist Marin Cilic, 6-2, 6-2.

He also competed for the first time since the U.S. publicly beat Carlos Alcaraz, and he also rebounded in an emphasised way with his No. 1 spot in the PIF ATP rankings. The 24-year-old Italian made his debut in Beijing in 2023 and reached last year’s final, saving his only breakthrough point when he returned to the China ATP 500 event, according to Infosys ATP STATS.

“I tried to focus a lot on the first round because I knew a lot of things would go wrong,” Sina said.

“I’m so happy to be able to show this today. Marin is a very tough player and he has a high peak. I managed to break him in both sets and it gave me the confidence to keep going.”

Sinner aims to keep pace with his rival Alcaraz to compete for PIF honors first place in the ATP end of the year for the rest of the season. He fell behind Espanyol who competed in Tokyo in the PIF ATP live match and scored 2590 points.

Next, Sina will face Terence Atman for the second time in several months. The French qualifiers earlier defeated Zhang Zhizhen, in his first tour victory since his surprise in the semifinals in Cincinnati, where he was stopped by Sinner in the couple’s first Lexus ATP Head2head Clash.
