Daniil Medvedev’s 2025 campaign was smooth, but if there was a stage where fate could change, it was likely the Chinese Open.

The 29-year-old threw the side on Sunday afternoon at Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in Beijing, blocking his position in the third straight quarterfinal in the ATP 500 event. Although Medvedev achieved a 29-19 record this year by his lofty standards, the 2023 finalists are still focused on rediscovering the advantages that once made him No. 1 in the PIF ATP rankings.

“Maybe the feeling of the game, general consciousness [which I have been] Medvedev has been lacking recently. To win many return games, you need to react quickly on the rate of return and run faster in the next shot. Everything needs to be better, but not bad. ”

After losing the first round at the U.S. Open last month, Medvedev split up with eight-year coach Gilles Cervara and now has been working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke. Medvedev competes in the world at 18th (his lowest score since January 2019) and will meet second seeds Alexander Zverev or Corentin Moutet in Beijing next.

Former Nitto ATP Finals champion Medvedev ranked 21st in the PIF ATP live competition, but if he wins in Beijing, he will be as high as 14. This will be his first trophy since the 2023 ATP Masters 1000 in Rome.

Earlier, the fourth seed, Lorenzo Musetti, continued to bounce back from his final heartbreak in Chengdu by holding the Beijing quarterfinals with #NextGenatp Learner Tien.

Musetti, who finished seventh in the PIF ATP live match, surpassed the qualifiers 6-3, 6-3 to strengthen his push to qualify for the first time Nitto Nitto ATP final. Tien, 19, beat Flavio Cobolli to his fifth ATP Tour quarterfinal (0-4) with a 6-3, 6-2 shooting percentage.
