Sinner hopes Cahill will stay until 2026 – Tennis Now

Ever since Janik Sinner announced that Darren Cahill would stop coaching him at the end of 2025, there has been mixed news as to whether the venerable Australian will actually resign.

Sinner has made no secret all season that he wants Cahill to stay.

The Australian has been part of Sinner’s team since July 2022 and has overseen Sinner’s rise from a brash, unproven star to a four-time Grand Slam champion who is rated alongside world champion Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s game.

After winning Wimbledon in July, he told reporters that he won a bet with Cahill and would have the power to veto Cahill’s decision to leave.

“We made a bet before the final,” Sinner said after beating Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final. “He said: ‘If you win tomorrow, you can decide whether I stay or not.’ The choice is mine now. I’m always looking for an honest person, someone who gives me a lot, not necessarily just on the tennis court, but [about] How to live. “

Not sure if this is true, but we’ll find out soon enough.

Meanwhile, Sinner continues to tell the media that he really wants to keep Cahill in the mix.

Speaking to ATP Media about the future of the partnership in preparation for this week’s First Bank Open in Vienna, “to be honest, we haven’t talked about it yet”. “We said we were going to finish the year and then we would probably have a long conversation with him to try to convince him,”

“But regardless, whether he stays or not, he’s a great guy and obviously a coach to me and brings the whole team together in difficult moments. He’s like a second father to me, so I’m happy to have him here. It’s a huge privilege to work with him. We’re aiming for some very positive things. [Cahill remaining with the team]I need a lot of hope for this. “
