Whatever made him uncomfortable early on was gone by the end of the game.

“I broke serve twice in the first set but I couldn’t convert,” Sinner said. “I put myself in a difficult situation but I’m happy with the way I ended the game and I feel a lot better. Hopefully it gives me confidence to start in a good way tomorrow. Hopefully I can recover physically, that’s my priority. It was a good game today and my performance was great.”

Sinner swept past the Argentinian for his 23rd consecutive victory on indoor hard courts and advanced to the Rolex Paris Masters final 7-5, 6-1. The Italian will face Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals in the French capital on Friday.

If second-seeded Sinner wins in Paris, he can surpass Carlos Alcaraz and reach the top of the ATP rankings. This is the 18th time in his career that he has reached the quarter-finals of the Masters.

He was broken twice in the first set but went on to win eight of his last nine games against Cerundolo, becoming the 12th active player to reach at least the quarterfinals in all nine Masters 1000 events.

Sinner has already won Masters titles in Miami, Canada, Cincinnati and Shanghai this year.

The 24-year-old also notched his 50th win of the season while also losing six games.
