Zverev saves 2 match points to stop arch-rival Medvedev in Paris – Tennis Now

Alexander Zverev turned the tables on his opponent in a rematch of the 2020 Paris Masters final, ending a five-game losing streak against him and earning a spot in the semi-finals.
Zverev defeated Medvedev 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5), saving two match points and winning a tense and dramatic match that was a win for everyone.
The second set started with a Halloween scare when Zverev fell and Medvedev rushed to his aid.
At the end of the third game, Zverev saved two match points and the score was 4-5.
“What I’m most satisfied with is that I saved the match point, I continued to be brave and won the game myself at the important moment,” Zverev said in an interview on the court.
There were also the usual long, dramatic, back-and-forth face-offs that these two baseliners relished, each winning their fair share.
In the end, Zverev won for the eighth time in 22 encounters with Medvedev. The defending champion extended his winning streak in Paris to eight matches but life won’t get any better for him on Saturday when he faces Jannik Sinner for a place in the final.
The two have met four times, with Sinner defeating Zverev 7-5 in last week’s Vienna final and winning the third game 7-5.
From one challenge to the next, Zverev is happy to be alive in Paris and gaining confidence as he moves forward.
“Daniel is my kryptonite, I don’t like playing against him,” Zverev said. “He’s the one who has had my number for the past few years. I’m very happy with this win. We had a great game last Sunday against Jannik. I’m happy to be on the pitch with him again. Hopefully we can share another great game.”
