Iga Swiatek jokes: ‘I feel like I’m 40’ as she opens up about her Wimbledon title and looks forward to more in Riyadh – Tennis Now

Not the most dominant season in 2025 Iga Swiatekcareer, but it’s been very good (62-15 so far, three titles). The Polish star, whose emotions reached a peak when she won her sixth Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in July, spoke about her campaign ahead of this year’s WTA Finals in Riyadh.

She sounds very much like a player who is at peace with her game and progress, with an eye toward bigger, and even better, achievements in the future.

“This has probably been a season with the most ups and downs, just in terms of results and how I feel sometimes going into tournaments,” she said. “But I think I’ve learned a lot. Even though I’m already an experienced player, I’ve had some challenges this year that are really new and I need to get used to them more.

“I think this is the first year that I don’t feel like I’m getting any younger. So it’s a different feeling, too. But overall, I think winning Wimbledon made this season really special and amazing, and putting that above anything else I would say, and then playing well in Cincinnati and winning.”

“It’s been a tricky season, but at the end of the day, I can say it’s been a good season.”

Swiatek opened her WTA Finals campaign with another impressive performance on Saturday, defeating 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys 6-1, 6-2.

She is seeking a second title at the tour’s season-ending championship after going a perfect 5-0 in 2023.

Time blends

When asked about the fact that she is the youngest player to qualify for the WTA Finals in five consecutive seasons in more than a decade, Swiatek talked about her age versus her perceived age.

“I feel like I’m 40 years old,” she said with a laugh. “No, but, honestly, touring life is intense, all seasons are super intense. So it’s easy to forget how young I am because I feel like I’ve only been touring for ten years. Actually, it’s been six years, but it’s been really busy and productive. So that’s something I’m happy about.

“I’m still young so there’s still a lot to change and improve in my game and it’s always good to find that perspective at the end, especially before pre-season or when you have more time. [time to] practice. “

Blair Henley asked Swaitek to look back at some of the technological advancements she’s making for the game in 2025. It turned out there were some significant improvements.

“I think technically, the way I play on faster surfaces and the way I handle faster balls at times, those were an issue for me in previous seasons and that’s something I feel like I’ve completely improved on,” she said. “And serve speed. I’m about fifth in terms of serves this season. I want my serve percentage to be consistent throughout, so that’s the next goal. But now I know I can serve and I can serve a lot and get some free points, so I think those two things are really good. Honestly, that’s my goal.”
