Cameron Norrie returned to the Mosel Open final on Friday, defeating Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The British left-hander failed in the 2024 final in Metz but will have the chance to lift the trophy again after a hard-fought comeback victory over Sonego on Saturday. Norrie opened the door in the third set against Sonego and finally broke through with her sixth break point in the tenth game of the deciding set.

“When I play Lorenzo, it’s always a battle and I have a lot of respect for him,” Norrie said. “He’s passionate about tennis and he showed he’s here to fight and we all played today and I was really happy with my level in the third set. I played freely and got a lot of support from the crowd.”

This is his 16th tour-level final and first since Metz last season. The seventh seed is seeking his sixth tour-level title. His last victory came in 2023 in Rio de Janeiro. The 30-year-old is currently ranked 27th in the PIF ATP Live Rankings and is expected to finish inside the top 30 by the end of the season, having been ranked as low as 91st in May.

Norrie’s performance in the second half of the season was impressive. The former Indian Wells champion reached the semi-finals in Geneva and then the fourth round at Roland Garros. He then reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon and recorded the biggest victory of his career at last week’s Rolex Paris Masters, defeating Carlos Alcaraz.

After improving to 3-1 in the Lexus ATP Head2Head series against Sonego, Nouri will face #NextGenATP star Learner Tien or Ukrainian lucky loser Vitaliy Sachko in the finals. The Italian finished the year with a 30-24 record, according to the Infosys ATP Win-Loss Index.
