Kailash Manasarovar Yatra to resume in 2025 after taking leave in June 2025

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) announced on Saturday that Kailash Manasarovar Yatra 2025 is scheduled to be held between June and August, marking the three-year suspension of respected pilgrimage during the 19th day pandemic.

Participation applications are now open on the official website (kmy.gov.in) and are selected through a process of fairness, computer generation, randomness and gender balance. This year, Yatra will accommodate five batches of pilgrims of 50 pilgrims, each type of pilgrimage through the Lipulekh pass in Uttarakhand and each 50 batches of pilgrimage through the Nathu La Pass in Sikkim.

Since 2015, the entire application and selection program have been fully computerized, eliminating the need for applicants to send letters or faxes.

Instead, feedback options available on the portal can be used for queries, observations, and suggestions. MEA emphasizes that digital systems ensure transparency and efficiency throughout the selection process.

The pilgrimage plan will be officially resumed on June 30, 2025 and will be jointly organized by the Uttarakhand government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to the official press release, special efforts by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami have led to the restoration of Yatra, making the route easier to access.

The statement noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Adi Kailash Yatra's initiative has made a significant contribution to the reduction of Kailash Manasarovar Yatra's path. The journey will once again follow the traditional route through the Lipulekh Pass in the Pithoragarh district.

Extensive discussions on YATRA's security behavior were held earlier this week at a meeting of the Foreign Ministry of New Delhi. According to the release, it is decided that Kailash Manasarovar Yatra-2025 will be operated by Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam. The journey will begin in Delhi, with pilgrims traveling through the Lipulekh Pass route.

The first group of pilgrims is expected to enter China via the Lipulekh pass on July 10, 2025, while the final group is expected to return to India on August 22, 2025. Each team will set out from Delhi, spend the night in Tanakpur and Dharchula, and then stay for two nights in Gunji and Nabhidang (Taklakot).

After the sacred Kailash Darshan, the return journey will be an overnight stop in Bendi, Jokori and Almora before the end of Delhi. The complete journey for each group will last 22 days.

All Yatris' health checks will be initially performed in Delhi and then at Gunji (Pithoragarh) with the assistance of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). The MEA has urged all applicants to carefully adhere to the guidelines and updates provided on the official website to ensure a smooth pilgrimage experience. (ANI)
