Carlos Alcaraz has been selected as the 2025 Stephen Edberg Sportsmanship Award recipient. The Spaniard received the honor for the second time and continues to be praised for his exemplary behavior on and off the pitch.

The 22-year-old won the award for the first time in 2023 and ended the season with the ATP year-end No. 1 ranking from the PIF. He lifted eight trophies in 2025, including two major championships. According to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Alcaraz has a season-high 71-9 match record.

One of Alcaraz’s standout moments of sportsmanship came at Roland Garros this year, when he was called for a foul during his fourth-round match against Ben Shelton. Alcaraz went all out and seemed to hit the game winner cleanly. The point was initially awarded to Alcaraz, but he immediately alerted the umpire that he had lost his grip on the racket midway through and made contact with the ball when it was no longer in his hands. According to the rules, that means the point belongs to Shelton. “I would feel guilty if I didn’t say something about it,” Alcaraz said after the game.

Felix Auger-Aliassime was also nominated in the category, along with previous winners Grigor Dimitrov and Casper Rudd. Sportsmanship nominees are determined by a vote by the International Tennis Writers Association (ITWA), with the winner chosen for the first time by a vote of members of the ATP’s No. 1 club, 29 current and former world No. 1 players.

Edberg won the Sportsmanship Award five times between 1988 and 1995, and the honor has been named after the Swede since 1996. From 2004-21, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were the only winners, with Federer winning 13 times and Nadal 5 times.
