Grigor Dimitrov splits with Vallverdu coach – Tennis Now

Grigor Dimitrov Ending one of the longest coaching relationships of his career.

Dimitrov, 34, announces separation from coach of eight years Danny Valverdo.

Dimitrov announced the breakup on his Instagram Stories.

“Eight years! It’s been an incredible journey, both on and off the court,” Dimitrov wrote. “Thank you for the lessons, laughter and memories we shared.

“Thank you for believing in me and pushing me to be the best I can be. You will always be a part of my story. I wish you all the best on your next adventure.”

Valverdu previously coached Andy Murray.

The news comes three months after Dimitrov split from his assistant coach Jaime Delgadowho also previously coached Andy Murray.

Former world No. 3 Dimitrov withdrew from the 2025 U.S. Open after suffering a partially ruptured pectoral muscle while leading world No. 1 Yannik Sinner 6-3, 7-5, 2-2 in the last 16 at Wimbledon in July and is still recovering.

The withdrawal ends Dimitrov’s streak of 58 consecutive Grand Slam tournament appearances dating back to the 2011 Australian Open. Dimitrov holds the record for the longest active male Grand Slam streak and the fifth-longest streak in Open history. Feliciano Lopez, the Mutua Madrid Open tournament director and Dimitrov’s friend, holds the longest record of 79 consecutive Grand Slams. The streak ends in 2022.

Dimitrov was a 2019 U.S. Open semifinalist and has reached the semifinals in three of the four Grand Slam tournaments, including 2014 Wimbledon and the 2017 Australian Open.

Dimitrov made his comeback last month at the Rolex Paris Masters. Dimitrov defeated Giovanni Mpehi-Pericad 7-6(5), 6-1 in his first match before losing to Daniil Medvedev in the second round.

Dimitrov is currently ranked 44th.
