‘Hurt’ Ferrero talks Alcaraz breakup – Tennis Now

After one of the most high-profile tennis breakups in tennis history, Juan Carlos Ferrero has opened up about his parting ways with Carlos Alcaraz, who won six Grand Slam titles and ranked No. 1 under his leadership.
In an interview with MarcaFerrero was quick to say that money was not an issue and he was careful not to reveal too much about how and why the talks broke down.
Regardless of how things panned out, Ferrero was saddened by the sudden breakup.
“Everything seems to be going well,” he told Marca. “It’s true that when the year is up, there are certain things about the contract that need to be reviewed. As with any new contract, looking ahead to the next year, we disagree on certain things. As with all contracts, one side pulls in one direction and the other side pulls in the other.

“Carlos’ camp looked at what was best for him and my camp looked at what was best for me. There were certain issues where both sides disagreed. If we sat down and talked, maybe those issues could be resolved, but in the end we didn’t and we decided not to continue. That’s what it is. There were points that I won’t go into detail about, but we disagreed on those issues and ultimately, we parted ways.
At present, Ferrero’s successor has not yet been determined. Alcaraz will continue to work with Samuel Lopez, who joined the team last year. Ferrero said he has no plans to coach anyone else in the near future.
“I thought maybe we both needed some time to fully process this breakup,” he said. “It wasn’t easy. Right now, I’m hurt. It’s hard for this relationship to end overnight.
“In the end, it was a long-term relationship, we went through a lot together and developed a strong bond. We built this emotional connection during training and we went through every important situation with him in games. In the end, everything turned around.”
