Elina Svitolina is a woman who focuses on competition. She proved that again at the ASB Classic in Auckland on Sunday, beating China’s Wang Xinyu 6-3, 7-6(6) in the final to improve her record to 19-4.
The 31-year-old Ukrainian saved all four break points she faced and went through a tense second set without a break before sealing victory in the tie-break.
No. 13 Svitolina has won nine of 10 in two career starts in Oakland, and she beat No. 57 Wang 2-0.
