Aryna Sabalenka defeated Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-3 in the Brisbane final on Sunday to win her second consecutive WTA 500 title and third in four years.
It’s a fast start to another season for the woman who has been No. 1 in the world for 62 consecutive weeks.
In a close match, Sabalenka fired a 17-15 winner for Kostyuk – breaking serve three times and conceding just one break – to improve to 5-0 against the Ukrainian, who would be her fourth consecutive top-10 finish.
But it wasn’t to be, as Sabalenka won her 19th hard court title and improved her record to 18-1 in Brisbane.
