For that brief moment, the momentum was firmly in Mboko’s hands – and then it wasn’t.

Mirra Andreeva made a strong comeback, winning 12 of her last 13 matches as the Russian sealed her fourth career WTA title and first 500-level WTA title with a 6-3, 6-1 victory as she made her intentions clear.

Third seed Andreeva lost four points in four games, chasing from 0-3 to 4-3, and she cashed in her third break point in the final game to win the match.

She extended her run to nine matches before Mboko prevailed in three sets in a challenging week, and now her body is struggling under the weight and can only play one more match, and she even had to save a break point to win 1-3 in the final.

The savvy and efficient Andreeva swept the final three games, conceding only four points, to finish the final in 64 minutes and win the title on her main draw debut.

The world number eight defeated Marie Bouzkova, Maia Union and Diana Schneider to reach the final, having dropped just 15 games in four matches and no more than three games in a single set.
