Lorenzo Musetti announced on social media on Sunday that he will not compete in the IEB+ Argentina Open in Buenos Aires or the Rio Open in Claro.
“Based on my medical and test results, my team and I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the upcoming tournaments in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro,” Musetti wrote on Instagram. “My focus now is on recovery so I can return to the court. Thank you all for your support and hope to see you soon.”
The Italian star has come a long way at the Australian Open, where he held a set-to-nil lead over rival 10-time champion Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals. However, he retired midway through the third set with an upper right leg injury.
Entering two weeks, the PIF ATP No. 5 player has never advanced beyond the third round of the Australian Open. But according to the Infosys ATP win/loss index, he has a 7-2 record this season after reaching the final in Hong Kong and the quarterfinals in Melbourne.
The IEB+ Argentina Open is an ATP 250 event that starts on February 9th, and the Rio Open hosted by Claro is an ATP 500 event that starts on February 16th.
