Players can start cheering in Indian Wells.

ATP reverses ruling on Whoop wearables and other fitness trackers. Starting next week at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, players will be allowed to wear Whoop bracelets.

“The Board of Directors approved a rule that expands the scope of permitted wearable device providers and on-court use by players at ATP events, and authorizes management to determine and finalize implementation details, including what new data governance controls, if any, will be implemented,” the ATP said in a statement.

The ruling comes a month after world number one Carlos Alcaraz was asked to remove his shouting card at the start of his fourth-round match at the Australian Open. No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and No. 2 Jannik Sinner were also ordered to remove their Whoop wrist devices.

“Whoop has been approved by the International Tennis Federation for use during competition and does not pose any safety risk,” said Whoop CEO and founder Will Ahmed. “Let athletes measure their bodies. Data is not steroids!”
