Francisco Cerundolo Continue cleaning the clay.
Top-seeded Cerundolo crushes Team USA Emilo Nava 6-1, 6-1, earning his 150th tour-level victory on San Diego clay.
The 27-year-old Cerundolo is the first active Argentinian to reach the 150-win milestone and reaches his 18th tour-level semifinal.
Top-seeded Cerundolo won the Buenos Aires title earlier this month and will enter tomorrow’s semifinals with a 7-1 record on South American clay.
“I wasn’t expecting this,” Serendolo said. “I saw Emilio playing really well in the last few days, so I started to focus very much on my game because I knew it was going to be a very difficult game.
“But I thought I played really well. I rarely missed any shots today. I’m very happy with my performance.”
Serendolo saved five of 13 break points today thanks to her formidable forehand. Cerundolo will face Yannick Hanfman Compete for a spot in the finals.
Hanfmann, ranked 81st in the world, defeated 21-year-old lucky loser Velius Gobas of Lithuania 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in a match that lasted 2 hours and 12 minutes.
Hanfman, who loved San Diego’s higher altitude, hit 46 winners, 30 more than his opponents, to reach his 10th ATP Tour semifinal. Hanfmann is the first German to reach an ATP Tour semifinal on South American clay since Sao Paulo Indian Wells tournament director Tommy Haas in 2014.
