Alexander Zverev and Marcelo Melo completed a dream run on Saturday when they captured their first title together at Telecom Mexico presented by HSBC.

The German and Brazilian first teamed up in 2017 to win the ATP 500 Championship in Acapulco, defeating Alexander Erler and Robert Galloway 6-3, 6-4. The pair won 72% of their first serve points (28/39) and saved two of the three break points they faced on their way to a dominant 69-minute victory.

“Marcelo has been my best friend for over ten years and we finally won a match,” Zverev said. “We’ve been to a few finals and we finally did it. So this is special.”

Zverev and Melo play together frequently and reached the finals at the 2024 Rolex Monte Carlo Masters. According to the Infosys ATP Win-Loss Index, their current record is 20-25.

With the win, Melo claimed his 42nd tour-level doubles title, tying Mate Pavic for the most trophies among active players and extending his winning streak to eight matches after capturing the ATP 500 title in Rio de Janeiro last week with Joao Fonseca.

“Thank you to Sasha’s family, it’s awesome,” Melo said. “We’ve known each other for almost ten years and they’re always there for each other. Thank you, too, Sasha.”

Zverev, currently ranked fourth in the PIF ATP rankings, lost to Miomir Kekmanović in the second round of singles but returned three days later to win his first doubles title since winning the title in Acapulco with his brother Mischa Zverev in 2019.

Luz/Matos win in San Diego

Rafael Matos and Orlando Luz had another dominant week of the season on Saturday, defeating Ariel Behar and Matthew Romios 6-3, 6-4 at the BCI Seguros Chile Open.

With this win, Brazil, which won the title in Buenos Aires two weeks ago, joins Harry Heliovara/Henry Patten and Theo Arribach/Albano Olivetti as the only teams to win at least two titles in 2026.

“It’s awesome,” Lutz said. “This is my first title in South America. It feels very special to play with friends. To play with people I consider family. It’s really good. Even more special.”

The second-seeded Brazilians saved all three break points and won 76 percent of first-serve points en route to an 80-minute victory in their third tour-level final, according to Infosys ATP Statistics.

With two trophies and appearances in the Brisbane and Australian Open quarterfinals, Luz and Matos maintain a 15-4 record this year and climb to No. 8 in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Team Rankings, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
