It was a fantastic Sunday for Italian sport, and not just because Jannik Sinner lifted the trophy at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Some 6,500 miles away in Shanghai, Sinner’s compatriot Kimi Antonelli was making history by becoming the second youngest race winner in Formula One history.
Sinner gave fans a glimpse of his dual-sport craze during the ceremony following his victory over Daniil Medvedev.
“It’s a special day for Italy because I’m a huge fan of Formula One and it’s great to have a very, very young Italian Kimi leading Italy back to the top. So thank you Kimi, thank you Formula One,” he said, later telling Tennis Channel that he watched highlights of the 19-year-old Antonelli’s breakthrough win.

On Sunday, Sinner became the third man to win all six hard-court ATP Masters 1000 events, joining Antonelli at the Nitto ATP Finals last year, with the F1 star attending the prestigious event in Turin to support the PIF ATP Ranking No. 2.
Sinner left California with a 13-2 record this season, according to the Infosys ATP Win-Loss Index. The 24-year-old also finished second at the PIF ATP Turin Live event.
