Rafael Hodar reached the semi-finals at the Hassan II Grand Prix in Marrakech on Friday for the first time at a tour-level event, after Alexander Muller retired in the second set due to injury.
The 19-year-old Spaniard led Muller 6-2, 2-0 after 39 minutes, but the Frenchman stopped the action on the ATP 250 clay court.
“Today was difficult,” Jordahl said in an on-court interview. “This is not how you want to win games and I wish Alex all the best. I hope he recovers quickly and is back on the court as soon as possible. I’m happy to be in the semi-finals, but not in this way.”
Jordal is the fourth teenage player this century to reach the semifinals in Marrakech, and the second player born in 2006 or later to reach the semifinals of this level, after two-time ATP Tour champion Joao Fonseca.
Jordahl has enjoyed a breakthrough 12 months on Tour, climbing from outside the top 900 to a current career-high ranking of 89th. The former University of Virginia star currently climbs to No. 73 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings after breaking out of the top 100 for the first time on Monday. The 19-year-old is the second youngest player in the top 100 list, behind Fonseca.
A three-time ATP Challenger Champion in 2025, Jordal will be seeking the most important title of his career this week, with a meeting with either Luca Van Assche or Camilo Ugo Carabelli next.
In other matches, 36-year-old Marco Trengeliti defeated third seed Corentin Mutai 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach his second tour-level semifinal and first since Umag in 2018. Argentinian Trengeliti is ranked 85th in the PIF ATP Live Rankings and will on Monday become the oldest person to break into the top 100 for the first time in 50 years.
Trengeliti will face top seed Luciano Dadri in the semifinals. Defending champion Italian Dudelli comfortably advanced to the quarter-finals before Yannick Hanfmann withdrew from the quarter-finals due to injury.
