Trump announces tariffs related to the entertainment industry while calling for domestic film production

President Donald Trump condemned the state of the film industry in a social media post on Sunday, while announcing plans to implement tariffs related to Hollywood.

In Sunday's Truth Society post, Trump wrote: “The American film industry is dying rapidly.”

“Other countries are offering various incentives to keep our film producers and studios away from the United States,” Trump said. “Hollywood and many other areas within the United States are being devastated.”

The president said the situation was “a concerted effort by other countries and therefore a national security threat.”

“Apart from everything else, it’s also messaging and publicity!” Trump wrote.

Republicans say his plan is developing a tariff plan, and he authorized the Commerce Department and the U.S. Trade Representative to “immediately start the process of 100% tariffs on all films made on foreign land that enter our country.”

“We hope to make American movies again!” Trump concluded.

The comments came as several Trump’s tariff plans were suspended due to market turmoil and rebound. Trump said he won't leave it on Sunday Tariffs to China Let Beijing come to the negotiation form.

Trump returns to the White House

“At some point, I'm going to lower them because otherwise you'll never be able to do business with them,” Trump told NBC's Kristen Welker. “And they want to do business very much like their economy is really doing a really bad job. Their economy is collapsing.”
