ACWA Power agrees to export renewable energy to Europe

Saudi Arabia-based ACWA Power has signed agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOUS) with international partners to develop a value chain for exporting green hydrogen and renewable energy between Saudi Arabia and Europe.

These collaborations are part of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to strengthen global logistics connectivity through its Central India Economic Corridor (IMEC) initiative, which connects East and West.

ACWA POWER’s formal partnership during the workshop on renewable energy and green hydrogen exports held in late July 2025 and is supervised by the Saudi Ministry of Energy.

The company has signed a multi-party memorandum of understanding with European entities, Edison, Totalenergies Renewables, Zhero Europe and Energie Baden-Württemberg (ENBW).

The Memorandum of Understanding is dedicated to assessing the market demand for large-scale renewable energy projects aimed at exporting electricity to Europe.

The seminar also saw separate Moos signed with Centro Elettrotecnico sperimentale Italiano (CESI) and high voltage DC technology, as well as high voltage DC technology, such as Prysmian, Ge Vernova, Siemens Energy and Hitachi and cable TV providers.

These agreements are designed to establish advanced energy transmission corridors to improve supply reliability and optimize cross-border energy infrastructure efficiency.

A joint development agreement was signed with ENBW for the first phase of Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub, which will be commercially operated by 2030.

The hub is conceived as a comprehensive facility that generates electricity from renewable energy sources. It will include desalinated plants to support hydrogen electrolysis and ammonia conversion processes, as well as dedicated outlet ends.

These developments are consistent with Saudi Vision 2030 goals by promoting global energy security and supporting a sustainable energy transition.

In mid-July 2025, the chief buyer of Saudi Arabia’s state-owned power procurement company signed a consortium led by ACWA Power, with a total of US$3.1 billion (US$8.3 billion).

The purpose of these protocols is to develop seven new solar and wind projects with a total capacity of 15GW.

“ACWA Power agrees to export renewable energy to Europe” was originally created and published by global data-owned brand Power Technology.
