Airplane crashing at sea near Monterey County Lighthouse

Rescue personnel are looking for a third person after a small plane crashed on the Monterey County coast on Saturday night, and rescuers are looking for a third person.

Monterrey County officials warned the Coast Guard’s Monterrey Station at 10:55 p.m. Saturday that a twin-engine beech caused a sea crash of about 200 to 300 yards near the historic Pinos Lighthouse in the Pacific Grove, the Coast Guard said in a Sunday press release.

According to data from Flight Aware, the plane took off from San Carlos Airport at 10:11 pm and appeared for the last time near Monterrey.

The Coast Guard launches a 29-foot response ship that arrives at the scene shortly after 11 p.m.

Coast Guard helicopters and three California forestry and fire crews also helped with the search, as well as two Cal Fire drones. Several local law enforcement agencies also help in the response.

According to the Coast Guard, beech is located in beech.

The plane was scheduled to leave Sunday morning at Gooding Municipal Airport in Idaho (a two-hour, 48-minute flight) and flew back to Monterey later that day.

The National Transportation Safety Commission is investigating the crash.

The ABC7 news report in San Francisco said that airplane parts, including at least one wheel, were washed on a nearby Asilomar State Beach on Sunday morning.
