This ultra-repairable Bluetooth speaker solves the ugliest part of consumer technology

Repair rights have been a big deal lately, and there are many new products that prove it. One of the best examples in the technology world is the framework, which evolved by centering the modularity and repairability of the spiritual center of laptops and new mini desktop PCs. Like any gadget trend worthy of attention in lithium ion, other hardware companies are paying attention and jumping on the trend of repairability. I’m happy to say that this modular headwind has now expanded into the audio world.
This Bluetooth speaker from German audio company Teufel, whose name translates in English to “devil” or “devil” is by no means evil, and my worldly opinion. I say this because I am actually bothering myself to address the concepts of repairability and modularity. According to Teufel, its new speaker is called MYND and includes the battery, which is usually the first component in the failed gadget of the breed. When the battery runs out, so does the power supply, when there is no power supply,…that is when things surface in the landfill.
But it’s not just the battery. Teufel’s Mynd speakers also have open source software and hardware, which means you can actually print some components with a 3D printer at home, or create new drivers for the speakers. In theory, you don’t even have to buy MYND from Teufel to have one. Instead, if you have a 3D printer and some technical knowledge, you can print the shell, use Teufel’s software and buy the components you need. After that, just assemble them correctly and go. You have one.
“A 3D printer with enough print volume and material to print all the plastic parts, we also released software used internally by MYND. This means it only takes a few screws and you can build your own speakers. You can also adjust the acoustic adjustments to your personal wishes,” said Teufel’s engineer in a blog post.
I like repairability: Better for the Earth, better for people, these are two very important things. That being said, I do have some doubts about Mynd’s voice, as there are limitations to making something that is almost entirely open source and modular. One of them is the grate of the speakers, which, as an engineer at Mynd State, must be made of plastic. It’s hard to say how this will affect the sound without trying it.
If there is a real problem with MYND, it is that Teufel does not seem to have shipped it to the United States at the moment. However, if you are in Europe, you can order this spokesperson for 229.99 euros through Teufel’s website. It is worth noting that Teufel Do A spokesperson using fender brands sent to the U.S., so maybe the restrictions will change in the future.
The truth is, people want products that can last and products that they can feel good about. Most people (including people) have to throw away this introductory gui when there is something wrong with the gadget and you have to throw it away, which is especially frustrating when you know things don’t have to be this way. Given the choice, I think most of us would only choose to buy a new battery on a brand new speaker. Teufel may be the name of the demon, but as far as I know, Mynd feels a lot like a saint.
