Amazon plans to make men hate their favorite sci-fi franchise with a release date

Michelle Yeoh is moving to another science fiction series. She will star in the new “Blade” TV series called Blade Runner 2099. Expected to be on Amazon Prime video in 2026.
In it, she will play a swordsman runner, like the one Harrison Ford plays in the original iconic film. Basically, while Ford’s roles aren’t exactly the same roles, they are gender-swapping franchise. I call it a gentle gender swap.
It was an interesting decision to hand over the blade runner to Michelle Yeoh, and even Disney reportedly began to question what they needed to differ from the men in court. Men don’t like gender swap roles, they never support it with their wallets. I’ve tried a lot lately and there’s no successful example.

So what happens here is that Amazon seizes a franchise that only men are interested in and sends a woman who destroys another male-centric franchise to take over the traditional male role, and then pairs her with someone who is the most famous defender. Then they hired one of the most famous women because he ruined another sci-fi franchise to run it.
Perhaps Amazon thinks this will be the first entry in the Blade Runner series. It’s hard to imagine happening in a world where Disney can’t get women to support female superheroes. Getting women to invest in cyberpunk black is several levels of difficulty.
